Signs It's Time To See The Dentist Promptly

If you are experiencing troubles with your teeth, then you may wonder if you can ignore the issue and it will go away. Depending on the problem you're experiencing and the length of time it has been going on, it may be best for you to get in to see the dentist as soon as possible. Here are some of the reasons why you may want to schedule an appointment with the dentist as soon as you are able to get in:

You have a toothache that lasts longer than a day

If you have a toothache one day, you may feel like waiting and seeing if it will possibly go away on its own. If the toothache is due to something like irritation from eating something sharp that scratched the gum line or for another minor reason, then you should notice improvement within a day. If you still feel the same or worse the next day, then you should get in to see the dentist.

You have signs of possible bruxism

Bruxism is commonly referred to as teeth grinding. You should learn about the signs of teeth grinding and make an appointment to see the dentist soon if you feel like you might be grinding your teeth in your sleep. If you ignore the issue, then it can cause a lot of damage to your teeth, as well as other problems. Some signs of bruxism can include waking with a sore jaw, waking with a headache, increased tooth sensitivity, or irritation to the inside of your cheek. Also, you may notice damage to your teeth such as them becoming flatter on the top, getting loose, or chipping.

You may have an abscessed tooth

If you have an abscessed tooth, then it means there is an infection. If not treated right away and properly with the right antibiotics, then the infection can end up spreading to the rest of your body and putting your overall health at risk. Some signs of an abscessed tooth can include severe pain in your tooth and gums, a swollen jaw or face, difficulty opening your mouth, tooth sensitivity, a foul taste, a fever, body aches, and more. You should always get in as soon as possible for an abscess. However, if you are having severe symptoms like extreme pain, fever, and flu-like symptoms then let them know on the phone, so they can even switch appointments to get you in sooner, if necessary.
